As a copy editor, you have an in-depth command of the English language; you have a good grasp of proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling. You are, most probably, just like the rest of us: compulsive to a fault and enjoy righting the wrongs of written compositions. Therefore, this section will not by a pedagogical one; rather, the purpose of the APS House Style Manual is to introduce you, as an APS Copy Editor, to the peculiarities of writing for APS. How "we" do it is not the way that everyone else does it, and there are differences between how APS uses hyphens, parentheses, and brackets, and italics (to name a few) compared with other journals or references: this is the essence of APS house style.
