Formatting APS Journal Articles :: Footnotes
APS does not permit articles to be dedicated to authors living or dead. However, if an author is deceased, then this is indicated by a death dagger (†) in the author line of the Title page and a footnote (placed after the equal contribution footnote and before the contact information).
The footnote lists only that the author is deceased and gives the date of their death. The following form is used:
«fn»†Deceased 10 August 2005.
Note that the «fn» code has to be typed in before the date and that the date lists the day, month, and year.
