Formatting APS Journal Articles :: Main Text
Equations that are in text are handled as though they are normal text; that is, they are considered part of the paragraph and can be formatted and coded as though they were standard words. This may require the use of complex coding. More regarding the use of equations and complex coding can be found in the Math section.
Equations that have been separated from the text are dealt with in a slightly different matter. Currently, these are hand-edited and sent to the printer as a hard copy. Within the electronic version of the paper, you indicate where the equation should be placed by removing the equation and inserting the letters ZZZ and then a hard return. Text that follows the equation starts with the «f» or «p» codes. Here is an example:
