Formatting APS Journal Articles :: References
Names of all the authors have to be included (we don't use the phrase "et al." in references). Groups, organizations, companies, or specific projects are acceptable. If all the names have not been included, consult PubMed or query the author to request that they provide all the names.
The full name of the author or group is used for citations. Names that begin with De, d', von, Van, etc. are written out and placed in their respective alphabetical part of the Reference list (D, V, etc.). If these names would normally be lowercase, like de, van, or von, retain the lowercase. If the reference is presented with surname followed by initials and then the von, d', Van, etc., then it should be styled, e.g., as "Hindenburg P von." The reference list should not be reordered or renumbered.
Surnames come first and then the first and middle initials, which are bumped with no periods.
For three or more authors, use "and" and a serial comma. For two authors, use "and" and no comma.
End the «a» line with a period unless an editor is used instead of an author; in that case, there is no period and the «t» line starts as follows: «t»(editor). Title and other information. Note the parentheses around the word "editor." At proof stage, the name of the editor should be in bold and the (editor) term will be roman.
