Formatting APS Journal Articles :: References
Do not edit another journal's title information to conform to APS house style.
Italicize genus and species names.
Do not change British spelling to American spelling.
Superscript and subscript the appropriate chemical ions if the numbers and charges are in parentheses. For example, Ca(2+) should be changed to Ca2+.
Only change written out Greek letters ("alpha," "beta," "gamma," etc.) to the Greek letter if it is an APS journal.
Titles are usually initial capped. If the first letter is a number or Greek letter, then capitalize the next normal letter.
If a colon is used in the title, then the first word after the colon is lowercase (unless it is a proper name or would normally be capitalized).
For publishers, the abbreviation "Univ." may be used for University.
Full page ranges are used. For example, 7: 1123-9 would be changed to 7: 1123-1129. This includes any letters in the page range; double dashes are used to separate the letters and letter-number combinations for the range. For example, 7: S1123-9 would be changed to 7: S1123--S1129.
Feel free to double check any "suspicious-looking" information using the search engine Google or PubMed. You can also query the author for more information (using the AU function in the Toolkit).
