How to Use the Manual

The manual itself has been divided into three major sections: the Formatting, Style, and Resources sections. The Formatting section describes the parts of the journal article and how to process the raw manuscript into a form that can be used by the printer. In general, this covers all things relating to coding the manuscript and the use of the Toolkit. The Style section describes how APS uses the English language to create a consistent, organized written composition that is scientific in nature. This is where to look for answers to questions relating to punctuation or how to compose equations. Finally, the Resources section provides information regarding biology as a whole as well as a generalized list of commonly encountered abbreviations and terms within APS articles.
