Disclosures

Authors of research articles are required at the time of submission to disclose to the APS Publications Office any potential conflict of interest (e.g., consultancies, stock ownership, equity interests, patent-licensing arrangements, lack of access to data, or lack of control of the decision to publish). In such cases, the author(s) will be asked to fill out a Conflict of Interest Disclosure form. The information provided in the form, unless already disclosed in the submitted article, will be held in confidence while the paper is under review. If the article is accepted for publication, information on the potential conflict of interest — including a lack of control of the decision to publish — will be included in the Disclosures section, following the acknowledgements.

Disclaimers may also be used in this section. Do not edit the disclaimers; quote them verbatim, as provided by the author.

This work was carried out under Naval Medical Research and Development Command Independent Work Unit no. MR000.01.01-5086. The opinions or assertions contained herein are not to be construed as official or as reflecting the views of the Department of the Navy or the Department of Defense.

The Disclosures section is set in 9/10 font, along with the rest of the acknowledgements. It is preceded by a level 1 heading, "DISCLOSURES".

Acknowledgments of Grants

In addition to conflicts of interest, all acknowledgments of grants and funding are listed in the Disclosures section.

The word Grant is capitalized when used as a designator with a specific number.

This study was funded in part by Grant DK-78076.

Names of funding institutions should be spelled out. Refer to the list of common grant acronyms, or query the author if you are unsure what an abbreviation means.

Grant recipients should be identified by initials and last name only.

If a single NIH grant is listed, write the institute's full name and provide the grant number only.

This study was supported by National Institute of Arthritis, Diabetes, and Kidney Diseases Grant 19817.

If grants are listed from two or more NIH institutes, do not list the individual institutes. Designate all grants as "National Institutes of Health" and provide full grant number with prefix. See the list of NIH Funding Institutes for NIH grant abbreviations and prefixes.

This study was supported by National Institutes of Health Grants AM-19817, AR-38347, and NS-10783.

If the name of an institution is used more than once in the acknowledgements, the accepted abbreviation may be used in instances after the first mention.

The author may state in the acknowledgments that researchers followed guidelines for the humane use and care of animals, or that human subjects gave their informed consent.

Using the Toolkit

There is no specific code for the Disclosures section; simply add a level 1 heading at the end of the Acknowledgements and begin the disclosure text there.

«h1»DISCLOSURES«/h1»
This study was supported by...

If the authors do not have any acknowledgments of people or current addresses, the acknowledgment section may contain no content other than the Disclosures. If this is the case, place the level 1 heading immediately after the «ack» code.

«ack»
«h1»DISCLOSURES«/h1»
This study was supported by...

As with the Acknowledgments section, there is no "end code" for Disclosures. Begin the reference list immediately following the disclosure text.
