Keywords

The author should provide a list of keywords. If there are no keywords, e-mail the author or propose some and query.

Exception

Articles in Journal of Neurophysiology, Physiological Reviews, and NIPS do not include keywords.

Keywords should be all lowercase, except for proper nouns.

Keyword should be separated by semicolons. Do not use the word "and" between the last two keywords of the series.

Terms that are duplicated in the title or running head of the article should be deleted from the keyword list.

If abbreviations are used in the title or running head, they should be spelled out in the keyword list.

calcium ion; protein kinase C; polymerase chain reaction; Sprague-Dawley rat; angiotensin AT1 receptor

(Note that Ca2+, PKC, and PCR are spelled out; however, "AT1" is nearly a proper noun, and can be used in the keyword list if prefaced by an antecedant-like descriptor.)

Do not put a period at the end of the list.

Using the Toolkit

Use the «key» code at the beginning of the keywords list.

If the author has included a label ("keywords," "key terms," etc.), delete it.
