Manufacturers

When an author gives a manufacturer's name in the text of an article, the manufacturer's location should be listed in parentheses immediately following. The location should include the city and state if in the United States; otherwise use city and country. If the author has not supplied a location, add it if it can be easily found (try the List of Manufacturers' Websites), but do not query author for missing information unless the author has provided incomplete information (e.g., a country but no city).

If both the manufacturer name and the location are given in parentheses, separate them with a comma.

Primary and secondary antibodies for detecting ET-1 were obtained from Peninsula Laboratories (Belmont, CA).

Primary and secondary antibodies (Peninsula Laboratories, Belmont, CA) were used . . .

If a trade name, model, or catalog number is given before the manufacturer and location in parentheses, separate trade name with semicolon.

(Amiloride; Sigma, St. Louis, MO)
(Vanguard XR-35; Vanguard Instruments, Melville, NY)

A location is required only at the first mention of a given manufacturer name; subsequent mentions of the same manufacturer do not require a location.

If the manufacturer and location follow the first use of an abbreviation preceded the parentheses, the abbreviation and the manufacturer's name and location may be placed within the same set of parentheses.

Drugs used were tetrodotoxin (TTX, Sigma), bicuculline methobromide (Sigma), and CNQX (Cambridge Research Biochemicals).

Use 2-letter abbreviation for state names; delete USA. If USA is the only location given, delete it and do not query for location.

Delete trademark symbols (™, ®, etc.) and abbreviations such as Inc., Co., Ltd., AG (German equivalent of Inc.), GmbH, etc., from the company name.

"Model" should always be lowercase, and number signs should always be changed to "no."
